Hiddingh Hall Library

While the foundation stone of Hiddingh Hall was laid in 1910, the completion and official opening of the University of Cape Town's first purpose-built library took place on 29 September 1911. The building was designed by the firm of Sir Herbert Baker, whose architectural plans are housed in the UCT Libraries’ Special Collections Division. The funding of Hiddingh Memorial Hall was made by a bequest from the estate of Dr W. Hiddingh. Today, Hiddingh Hall Library is a branch library serving the Centre for Theatre, Dance & Performing Studies and the Michaelis School of Fine Art.
