Description
UKOMIWA is based on the short story 'Looking for a Rain God' (1958) by South-African author Bessie Head. The story is set in rural Botswana, in a small village where a brutal seven-year long drought has pushed people to their limits after altering between fragile hope and ever-increasing desperation for far too long. It puts forward our powerlessness in the face of natural forces, but also other issues; who do we become, when desperation puts us in an impossible dilemmas? What lengths would you go, to survive? In UKOMIWA, the relationship between a father, Mokgobja, and his son, Ramadi, is highlighted, and through this relationship, also the conflict between tradition and modernity and their contrasting solutions to solve the problem.
