The results of the examination held in the end of September for the Elementary Teachers' Certificate, and publisled last week by the Education Department, contain instructive lessons, to which we regret want of space prevents us from noticing in this impression. Meantime the subjoined memorandum from the Location Office will, we doubt not, be very valuable to Native school managers, Native students, as well to the general public, and we are most thankful to be the means of circulating the information it contains. It is as follows: — MEMORANDUM. The work of the Native candidates has wonderfully improved this year in style and accuracy. Mr. Solomon Govo of Lovedale (who stood 26th on the pass list) did a paper on 'School Management,' which Dr. Dale looks upon as a model. The notes on object lessons were skilfully illustrated. Canon Woodrooffe thinks that the Natives do not study Kafir as a language should be studied; mere translation is not enough.
