Peter Heck was born in Swakopmund, Namibia and attended school in Windhoek. He graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from Wits University and spent a year at the Hochscule fuer Gestaltung in Ulm, Germany.
He gained experience across a broad spectrum of design by working as an architect in practices in Zurich and Frankfurt, as well as in countries in the Middle East and North Africa. He eventually settled in Cape Town, continuing to practise both as an architect and interior designer. He attended drawing, etching and screen printing courses at the Michaelis School of Fine Art and other studios and his work has been shown in some group exhibitions. Photography became a keen interest and once a year he revisited much loved regions in the Namib.

Peter now lives in Simon's Town and devotes his time to painting and screen and embossed paper printing. This vibrant work captures the bold beauty of the flowers and leaves of the coral tree. The use of the screen print technique as the preferred medium
chosen by the artist to create the depth and range of hues is explained as
follows: “A specific colour is transferred onto a screen treated with light
sensitive emulsion and exposed to a light distributor. Then the screen is
washed with a high pressure nozzle which rinses away the design allowing
light to penetrate the screen and to print on paper. Once the ink is dry the
process is repeated with the next ink mixed to the required colour”.
