Auǁgami
The location is different from Hartogh's Oukamma (given as the Salt River in GM RZA 2 9 and map), and we probably do in both cases, there and here, with a river whose old name disappeared. Beutler and saidership are now near Leubos River at Buffelsvlei. Forbes 1965 PTSA 22's 'The Old Chamma was that probably The Stream Flowing South to Join the Deep on the Farm Zeekoe ...' 'fat water' is mentioned as the translation of old Chamma. The 'Chamma', usually spelled 'Kamma', is old-Cape for 'river' (Hott 430), Nama ǀǀ gami = water, also stream and river. The 'old' is the vexarized form of Nama soon- 'fat', or better, is like old-Cape oen (who) or Oun (who) for 'butter' (Hott 229), as in Nama old, 'fat, heart fat '. [For localization watch card no 3 at Forbes, it lies approx. 24 km west of the current Humansdorp.l
