Topo-kadastrale reeks 1969 vel 3324 Port Elizabeth 'Naroes'. 'Naroes' is plaas nr Uit. O-. 1910, geleë aan die suidelike grens van die distrik Ui- tenhage. Aangrensend aan Naroes aan die suidekant, maar nou in die distrik Port Elizabeth, is die plaas 'Rietkuil' nr Uit. Q. 4C-112. Dit lyk moontlik dat ons hier ’n toponimiese groep het waarvan die een deel Afrikaans en die ander Khoekhoens is. 'Naroes' kan soos Nama 'ǀharu-' = 'Binse' wees; h en n wissel mekaar geredelik af, vgl. NA- ROEGAS naas HARUCHAS en TH A* 46 by 5 D 6. Die slot -s is dan die lokatiefmorfeem fern. sing, wat veral bronne, fonteine en, soos hier, kuile, aandui. Semanties le 'riete' en 'matjiesgoed' nie ver uitmekaar nie.
