eng PNK 1939 'Dowomskraal. Post office. The place got its name by growing so many Hottentots that are commonly called 'Ghaugums'. Usual spelling: Dawkomskraal. I have also seen 'Gaugumskraal' ... Someone claims that such a man has stayed with the name Dawkom, but it doesn't seem true ... '[Information of Principals of the School.] [' another spokesman:] 'Dowomskraal, Dist. Humansdorp. Origin: Doukom, Doukum, Ghoukum and Ghokum are the name for some sourly wearing fruit. There are big plates on this farm ... '[Postmaster:]' There Appears To Be No Doubt That The Wild Fruit Which is Now Known as a 'Gogum' is Responsible for the Name '.
afr PNK 1939 'Dowkomskraal. Poskantoor. Die plek het sy naam gekry deurdat daar so baie Hottentotsvye groei wat algemeen ‘ghaugums’ genoem word. Gebruiklikste spelling: Dawkomskraal. Ek het ook al gesien 'Ghaugumskraal’... Iemand beweer dat daar voorheen so ’n man gebly het met die naam Dawkom, maar dit blyk nie waar te wees nie...' [inligting van prinsipale van die skooltjie.] [’n Ander segsman:] 'Dowkomskraal, dist. Humansdorp. Oorsprong: doukom, doukum, ghoukum en ghokum is die naam vir ’n soort suurvye wat vruggies dra. Daar is groot plate hiervan op hierdie plaas...' [Posmeester:] 'There appears to be no doubt that the wild fruit which is now known as a ‘gogum’ is responsible for the name'.
