The name has not yet been signed in on the Section Card 1890 of Knysna, but on younger cards, in many details on S.a. series 1975 scale 1:60 000 sheet 3323 CC cross valley. eng Survey 1960 'Quar Forest. Name of long standing for a forest 4 miles [6 km] north east of Knysna. Probably Hottentot. It is a private forest ‘Parks & Sons’. Quar is the common name of a timber tree, Plectronia obovata. The Quar Forest, also sometimes called Park's Forest, is well known in the Knysna district. It covers a large area. The Afrikaans version of the name of the tree is ‘kwar’, with no difference in the pronunciation. I have never seen the version ‘Kwarbos’ written. I know the area. PC Grobler'.
