We believe that Forbes's suspicion can be supported linguistically. For 'murder' there were no old-fashioned records. In Nama ǀ Gaǃ Gon to strangle, kill, and the S.Nw. Also assassination (Kr.-. Kr. 127. Thisǃ Gon looks like the cone of the river name. About the -na we are uncertain, maybe like Namaǃ Na = 'in' (the dust)? The current name 'murder pit' is then a translation of the old native name Conna.
