Dwarriega(Rivier)
The name Ghwarriega - in the spelling 'Dwariga' on the section card of Montagu 1890 for this river, and as 'Dwarriega River' (spelling as determined by NPK) on topographical series 1972 sheet 3320 Ladismith. The river is a tributary of the Kingna River, southeast of Montagu, to the northern slopes of the Langeberg Mountains here. Ghwarriega - is composed of the Khoekhoense name for the Euclea Undulata, the Ghwarrie (see Ghwarrie (Forest) in th a * 417), plus -ga- (for Nama -Xa) means 'Many, abundant', viz. to the ghwarriebos. Very interesting that in the ordinary intercourse and on the spot the Ghwarrie - is still expressed as whip. The change of d (-) and g (-) is lived, cf. e.g. Douma and Goukamma in th a * 320. Dwarriega River is nothing but the 'river where there are many (-GA) ghwarrie bushes (exchange ruling. However, the pronunciation 'Ghwarrie' is also very active in this environment, Witness at AA O.A. 'Ghwarriehoek', on AC 'Ghwar- Riekloof', on CD 'Ghwarrieboskloof' E.A.
