eng Surveying 1953 'Chekier River, name by earlier generations, for a river walking through the town of Montagu. Name presumably Hottentot or Bushman. Also be pronounced keys, emphasis on kee. According to inquiries I did, it seems that no certainty about the meaning of the name does not exist. According to some things, it means 'young girl', according to others again 'shiny water'. ' Information span by magistrate J. Greunen.
Naam vermoedelik Hottentot of Boesman.
