Nankoos, Nanqua’(S Kop) Ens.

There is nothing that helps us directly with a statement, but injustice may be there. The lock part is a useful designation. The name Nankoos is apparently old. It is worn by a stream flowing from west to east, it is also the name of a large forest reserve, also from the farm Nankoos itself, and of a head. The farm today is bordered on its southern line by 'Boschfontein', to its north by 'Doornkloof', both with the Dutch spelling indicating how age. The parts of the two mentioned farm names, viz. 'Bosch' and 'Doom-', seems to show that the Koos of Nankoos is the same word as for 'thorn (tree)', in Nama 11khu-. Possibly the koos then the generic term, and is the nan (g) - The specific term, but we cannot yet determine with our means. Another possibility is to see the word for 'Melkbos' in the member (s) (Nama Gui-S), because eg. The Swartkops River SE Khoekhozen name was soon in Gordon's time, and this river is fairly close west (cf. th a * 465), and just north of Nankoos Le Bega or 'Melk River', which may also hold a mortgage. It allows the After (n) - still inexpliced. Mr. Severad did field work on request and made recordings. He reports 1979 as follows: 'These Recordings Were Made By Men Living On The Farm Adjacent To Ngxa - Kosha Which is Known to Whites as Nankoos and is a colored Settlement area ... 'We believe the Xhosa ruling may also preserve the old Khoekhoen Suction. In Xhosa orthography, the -x is in the name like Khoekhoens ǀǀ, and the old name from Xhosa to write about as ǀǀ Ngakoos. The question is now whether the ǀǀ NGA is to appreciate like the post-tree, because of its juice so called, such as Nama 11na = 'Vollkrafig' (Kr.- R. 1969 NW 273). The ǀǀ after, with its nationality, correspond to the Nan of the name NANKOOS. The whole: The 'place (s of the Fern, sing.) Where the Naboom (11na + GUI) stands'?

Hy rapporteer 1979 soos volg: 'These recordings were made by men living on the farm adjacent to Ngxa- kosha which is known to whites as Nankoos and is a coloured settlement area...'
