The Rooiberg, as it is called today, Gordon's 'Rode mountain', between Calitzdorp and Vanwyksdorp. The name Gamdous is still preserved in the farm name 'Rietvally to De Gamdouwsberg', No. S.. Q. 9-26. The name is old. Gordon also gives the translation, viz. 'Lion road', such as Nama Xam-mi = lion, and dao-s = road, away, actually footpath, at WW. Dao = I stepped (on the grand). The Afrikaans (Dutch) -berg is a specialization that has been added for the elevation. 'Leepadberg'. Look further th * 351-2 where we came to about the same conclusion as here, with Gordon as a guide.
