Gamtoos(Berg)
It is farm SW. Q. 13-86, separated from 'Rietvally to De Gamdouwsberg' by an intervening farm, but this Gamtoos and that Gamdouwsberg to which it borders, is obviously, is apparently one and the same place. The -D- (here in -douw) and the -t- (in -too) rests on a regular alternation. This Gamtoosberg is not to derive from the same word as the Gamtoos River of K 3325. However, it was aligned according to the very well-known river name, though the river at longitude 25 and not on 21 as the farm. This Gamtoosberg is therefore (as it looks for us) a kind of whole nettimology, an associative adaptation. It is obviously understanding as 'Gamdouws (mountain)' and also translated as it was done by Gordon, D.W.S. as lion trail mountain. cfg. Gamdouws (mountain) in this part. This is modified in th a * 363 in accordance with this, as far as it deviates. If we did not have Gordon's guidance, we would probably translate Gamdouws (mountain) and its exchange ruling Gamtoos (mountain) as 'Groenkloof', at Nama Lam, in Old Cape (ǃ) Kam = 'Green', and Douw - or Too-, such as Nama Dao- = Gorge, Port, NAV The place names in the immediate vicinity of Gamtoos and Gamdouws (mountain) compiled from 'green' + 'gorge', 'fountain' and relatives.
