eng Survey 1956 'Komas River, name of a dry river or sprout, 23 miles [37 km] Noordnoordoos of Swellendam. From Hottentot (Hessekwa), focus on co. The sprout is about 5 miles [8 km] north of [the farm] Hotten-crown. Around 1877, Capt. TILNEY (SWELLENDAM) Commandants AP Swanepoel and Jan Fullard commanded to storm and destroy the kraal with a commando. Capt. Kees was the Hottentot captain. Concern was soldier, a major Hottentot and a handsome shooter with a pan. Komas River was also their suburbs, therefore, we can almost with certainty the name KOMAS link to one of their leaders of earlier. By PD Smit (geb. 1.8.1867) and Hans le Roux (geb. 1847) told author during 1940 '. Information provided by the magistrate of Swellendam, hand drawing unreadable. Possible, but very vague. We add a consideration. The topographical series 1973 sheet 3320 Ladismith has on Brak River, farm No S.. Q. 19-3. The farm on which this Komas River (D.I. a brook) lies, the entry 'Koegat' with homestead. A connection between comasy and koegat looks geographically undressing. Also linguistically, the bond is anything: Nama for cow is Goma-S (Rest 1960 DNW 37). Then it is the hand to translate this Komas River with 'Cow, or Cattle River'. Our spokesman above also says that Komas River was the Khoekhoen's 'pasture'.
Kapt. Ons voeg ’n oorweging by. Q. 19-3. die plaas waarop hierdie Komasrivier (d.i.
