It is clearly the 'O of Gordon and is compared to Nama ╪o-b = 'The meal, emphasis' (Kr.- R. 1969 NW 330), a 'gorge', a taste. Gordon's' Garoo corresponds to Nama ǀǀ Aro 'Schmal, Eng' (Kr.-. 22). This name would have been ringing in Nama ǀǀ (g) aro-╪o- (b), 'Smallkloof'. The nama shape is defacearized, a very ordinary development compared to Old Cape (see Hott 186 and 5 c 2).
