Hier is nog ’n bewys dat (Groot(visrivier oorspronklik ’n Khoekhoense naam gehad het, vertaalbaar met 'Vis(rivier)', soos Nama ǀǀou-b = vis. Die skerp aksentteken verteenwoordig die suigklap. 'Vis' is al deur De Flacourt in 1655 opgeteken as 'h ou' (HOTT 501).
