The river then has two names in Khoekhens. The one Name is the old Nautu that has become in unemployment and comes from the red-ochard land through which its stream area is, the other name is Kaprivier, from the reeds at its underwear. The Xhosanam of the river is Ingrexax, Connection of Slead .

Die tweede lid, die -tu-. is dalk, soos Nama ǀu- wat in die eerste plek beteken 'das Haar', maar ook beteken 'die Farbe' (Kr.-R. 368), die geheel dus 'okerkleur(grond)'. Die dentale ǀ word dan gerealiseer in die dentale t- van die lid -tu. Die tweede lid word as 'n waarskynlikheid verklaar. Die Nautu as riviernaam is dus dieselfde as die NOUTOE wat in TH A* 916- 917 bespreek is, ’n plek op K 3326 AD, noordwestelik van Grahamstad. Dit is juis hierdie bodemgesteldheid wat die geologiese laag bokant die Dwyka-serie sy naam van Ecca-serie gegee het. Ons meen dat mnr Skead gelyk gehad het om die verband met die rooi-okergrond vir die naam Nautu te le. Taalkundig en aardkundig klop dit oortuigend wat die eerste komponent betref. Dit kom ook uit aan party name wat Blankes gegee het soos 'Red Hill' (kaart van Henry Hall 1856) waarlangs die Kaprivier oos- telik verbystroom. Op die heuwel is driehoeksbaken nr 423. Die rivier het dan twee name in Khoekhoens. Die een naam is die ou Nautu wat in on- bruik geraak het en afkomstig is van die rooi-okergrond waardeur sy stroomgebied gaan, die ander naam is Kaprivier, afkomstig van die riete aan sy onderloop. Die Xhosanaam van die rivier is iNgxaxa, mededeling van Skead.
