afr Ons het hier 'n interessante geval. Op die Afdelingskaart 1890 is hierdie plaas met dieselfde nommer (Uit. F. 10-58) ingeskryf as 'Sapkamma', en ook op die ooreenstemmende Topografiese kaart 1973 verskyn net 'Sapkamma'. Die oudste vorme was slegs 'Sapkamma'. Dit was ’n plaas uit- gereik in eiendomsreg (die F. na die Uitenhage) staan vir Freehold.) Fangs die pad van die tyd het Sapkamma verander tot Sapkamer en is nou in die vorm geregistreer, hoewel die huidige naam ook as twee woorde op ampte- like kaarte gespel word, bv. as 'Sap Kamer' (nr 234) in die S.A.-reeks 1972 skaal 1:50 000 vel 3324 AC Gertskraal. Oor die verandering weet ons uit ons gegewens niks meer nie. Mens kan raai dat dit gebeur het om ver- warring te voorkom, nl. met die erfpagplaas Sapkamma wat ooswaarts le, ook op breedtegraad 33, nl. op 3325 AC, en nie op 3324 AC nie, soos Sapkamer van tans. Die deel -kamer is wel volksetimologies verkry uit die ou -kamma (= 'water/rivier'). Miskien het die lid Sap- (party-politieke) volksetimologiese bygedagte saam met sy -kamer gekry. Die Sap- is egter soos Nama sa- vir 'Boesman', vgl. steekwoord SAPKAMMA K 3325 AC in TH A** 1000 vir bespreking. Hierdie Sapkamer le suidelik van Steytler- ville, in hierdie distrik, aan die noordelike hange van die Baviaanskloof- berge hier. Daar was waarskynlik Boesmans by ’n water (ǀǀgammi = water) in die berg.
