Tchnuganoo, Tchnugandoo
With the first guide the section card 1890 of Willowmore before We are Tchnugandoo already a farm, south of the Baviaanskloof Mountains, and through the farm run the 'Tchnugandoo Kloof'. West of Horn and on the farm 'Vlei Gorge' runs the stream or gorge 'Tchando Gorge', and east of Tchnugandoo runs 'Tchando R.', in turn located on the farm 'Tchando' no. Q. 12-32. It seems as if there is an area named Tchando (O), also spelled '-Gando (O)', and inside the Tchnu Gando (O). To this day, the first member is pronounced as 'Tchnoe-', according to Mr Le Riche. The TCH in all cases is an attempt to approach the suction patch, viz. of -noe-. Then one wonders whether the first member is not like Nama ╪nu = black, d.w.s. The place is the 'Black-Gandoo' or 'Black Ganoo', according to the Spell on SA series 1968 scale 1:50 000 sheet 3323 DB Studtis. Or Tchando (Tjando on scale 1:50 000) and -gandoo in Tchnugando contains the same ground word or not, the old Tchnugan (D) OO appears today in the pronunciation of 'approach', with exchange of the first two syllables' vowels. There is so much breakness that we cannot connect the name to Dutch names of the Neighborhood. Everything is taught, it seems to us whether there is good soil to understand this place name as 'black floating', the 'black' with regard to the bottom or environment.
