Cuighakamma

The component 'Camma is like Nama ǀǀ gami = 'water, walk, river'; 'Cuigha appears elsewhere at Gordon (1779 MS 2 40/41) if Guy' chews for 'man's sake', in current Nama to bring thanǃ Gai-Khoe B, literally 'magic man' or also 'medicine man', cfg. Kr. 1969 NW 107. The member 'Cuigha (the sharp accent sets a suction consonant here) can be (with much good will) connected toǃ Gai-xa = magic. Krenz FK 1974 Farmer recording represents an easier 'solution'. He says 'ǀ Uixa ǀǀ Gam = enchanted water'. Forbes 1965 PTSA 149 shows i.v.m. Jacob van Reenen's journey in 1790 that his saying arrived at toverwater port where the Olifants River cut through the Swartberg, the same place as Gordon spoke above (cf. Also Forbes card No. 11 in PTSA). Snap south of the gate today, the sidelines lie. This magic water and the toverwater of Toverwaterpoort are undoubtedly translations from Khoekhens given following an insi- dent that Gordon communicates. There is another farm toover fountain nr.q.4-72 on 3323 BB on the eastern boundary of the district Willowmore, but it is geographically so far away that there will be no connection between them.

afr Die komponent 'camma is soos Nama ǀǀgami = 'water, loop, rivier'; 'cuigha verskyn elders by Gordon (1779 ms 2 40/41) as guy 'kauw vir 'man tovenaar', in huidige Nama oor te bring as ǃgai-khoe-b, letterlik 'toor-man' of ook 'medisyneman', vgl. Kr.-R. 1969 NW 107. Forbes 1965 PTSA 149 wys i.v.m.
