Hoeko, Hoeko (Se Kloof)
The farm 'Hoeko' No SW. Q. 13-76 gained fame as the place where CJ Langenhoven was born. It is in a fertile valley with its own water and fruit orchards, especially of apricots. Here east of Ladismith is quite a few place names coming from Khoekhens, such as House River, Knuys WagerDrift, Knuy River, possibly Kobus River, and also Hoeko. The name Hooso is old. We have no indication of what He means, but we believe that the second member, the CO, can be declared reasonable certainty. 'Hoeko's gorge' originates on the southern slopes of the little Swartberg mountains. Its starting point is still in the bush reserve, then he falls to Hoeko over the elongated and steep farm 'Peak place', to finally be received by the east-flowing 'Kobus River'.
