Huis(Rivier), Huis(Rivierpas)
The Kluis River flows from the west and mouth northwest of Calitzdorp in the Gamka River, and only south of the farm House River No SW. Q. 133-72. About 15 km from his confluence with the Gamka, the House River receives a northern tributary. The tributary flows o.a. About the farm Wilgen- Wood River No S. SW. Q. 13-75. At 1:50 000 map 1968 sheet 3321 ad Ladismith carry the tributary two names. At his confluence, it is the 'Boostri- Four', but in its northern part it is the 'Wilger River'. The toponimic group 'House River', 'Wilgenhouts River' and 'Willow River' let us suspect that there is also a semantic connection in addition to the geographical context. 'Wilgerboom' is in Nama home (Rust 1960 DNW 72) that sounds soundly similar to the member home of 'House River'. Based on these considerations, we believe that Huisrivier is in his first member Khoekhens and that Wilge River and Wilgenhouts River (partial.) Procedures of the Khoekhoense word. House (river) therefore means 'willow four'. The same statement will apply to the farm name 'home river' and the new name 'House River Pass' which is both traveled from the river name.
