It is a place that they passed through the Roggeveld to the Hantam on the northern slopes of the Swarteberg, Elandsberg and the Witteberg by the present Laingsburg. The inland name has now disappeared. The member 'chewing (in front of a suction sound) is old-Cape for 'mountain' (see the various find phases in Hott 217), in Nama ǀ UI-B, globalizing from the parent ǀ (k) UI-b. The member GAI (with sucking sound) is like Nama ╪khai = 'glossy, erglanzen, blink', which occurs in many names, eg. River names. A literal translation is then about the 'Blinkberg', hence the color impression of 'Witberg'.

Dit is ’n plek wat hulle op hulle tog deur die Roggeveld na die Hantam deurgetrek het aan die noordelike hange van die Swarteberg, Elandsberg en die Witteberg deur die teenswoordige laingsburg. Die inlandse naam het nou verdwyn. Die lid 'kou (vooraan ’n suigklank) is Ou-Kaaps vir 'berg' (kyk die verskeie vindplase in HOTT 217), in Nama ǀui-b, geglottaliseer uit die ouer ǀ(k)ui-b.
