'Milk kingdom', 'very milk', possibly understand as bottomless 'white like milk'. The official spelling of the river in this place is Bira, but on the topographical series 1969 sheet 3326 Grahamstown comes to the eastern shore of Birarivier about Two km from the beach the place 'Begha Mouth', which, as such, is clearly a spelling form from the current Bira. Die naam is al behandel onder BEGHA t.o.v. die betekenis, d.w.s. die lid Bi- (Be-) is Ou-Kaaps vir 'melk,', en die lid -gha is soos Nama -xa-, hoe- veelheidsuffiks vir 'baie' ('plenty' by Stevens), maar die -xa- word deur die Xhosa aangepas by hulle fonologie, en hier deur die Blankes geskryf -ra. 'Melkryk', 'Baie melk', moontlik te verstaan as bodembeskrywend vir 'wit soos melk'. Die amptelike spelling van die riviertjie op hierdie plek is Bira, maar op die Topografiese reeks 1969 vel 3326 Grahamstown kom aan die oostelike oewer van Birarivier ongeveer twee km van die strand af die plek 'Begha Mouth' voor, wat as sodanig duidelik 'n spel- lingvorm is van die huidige Bira.
