Udigauga
It is the name of the Khrail of Khoekhoian captain, located at the Kariega River, between Willowmore and Aberdeen. Dr Mossop 1931 VRV 12 259 identified this place as follows 'Udigauga, Meaning Fat Grazing Or Fat Sheep (Present Name Or Locality :) Beer Vlei, Vogelstruis Vice and Apple Kraal, At Junction of Kariega and Salt Rivers'. Unfortunately, he does not say where he comes to his statement of meaning or how he analyzes the name, but his statement is apparently accepted, eg. by Blommaert and Wiid in VRV 18 242. Perhaps Hydit puts out togetherǃ You = 'grazing, grasses', and -gou- = 'Fett' (Rust 1960 DNW 72 and 21) Plus -GA for -exa- = Very, Empire On, simply descending on the soundback. So one can make many things possible. Where Dr Mossop could find that Udigauga at the confluence of Kariega and 'Salt River', then we would be stated to think of eg. ╪O = 'salt' for the ground word to agree with the member u- of the name, etc.
