Slead CJ 1973 Gazette 51 Give a bill of exchange from 'DWAYDUA' in addition to the dwequa in this form still mapped in 1969. In the topographical series 1972, the name is missing. It is an old river received in the Groot River from District Ceres. About the meaning we have no good designation, but the sound relationship with names such as Dwyka and the variants suspect that this river is a 'Brak River', now just across the hill of Touws River. Otherwise, we should think of A stem name (based on the exit -qua, from -gu-A = men-them) which then indicated their place of residence at a time-dot and then became river name.

Skead CJ 1973 Gazetteer 51 gee ’n wisselspelling hierby op van 'Dwegua' naas die Dwequa wat in hierdie vorm nog in 1969 ingekarteer is. In die Topografiese reeks 1972 ontbreek die naam. Dit is 'n ou riviertjie wat in die Grootrivier van distrik Ceres ontvang word. Oor die betekenis het ons geen goeie aanwysing nie, maar die klankverwantskap met name soos DWYKA en die variante daar laat vermoed dat ook hierdie riviertjie ’n 'Brakrivier' is, nou geleë net oorkant die heuwelreeks ten noorde van Touwsrivier. Anders moet ons dink aan ’n stamnaam (op grond van die uitgang -qua, uit -gu-a = manne-hulle) wat dan hulle woonplek op ’n tyd- stip aangedui het en wat toe riviernaam geword het.
