Kous(Berg), Gous(Berg)
Kousberg is the name of a mountain in the Laingsburg district. On his peak is triangle beacon 28 and at the said map the name 'Gousberg' was written. On the north-western hang of the mountain is the farm Gouskenk Nr wor. Q. 17-7. We believe Gousberg and Gous angle are in the first member Khoekhens and that the names have nothing to do with the last name. With the well-known change of G and K (cf. Th A * 42 at 5 A 3), GOUS and stocking are changing the same name. Only west of triangle beacon 28 Gousberg and also at the height of 4,500 feet [1 372m] is triangle beacon 26, 'Gatsberg'. Both triangular beacons are on the same peak of Kousberg and are located on the farm Gats Berg Nr. Q. 14-8. The Gats River originates on the farm. We believe that topographical grounds are good reason to assume that GATS translated from GOUS / stocking. Also linguistically, Ges and stocking (GOUS) with one another; Thunberg recorded 'HEI' in 1773. Hott 271 S.V. Hole I and II). It also correlates well with Nama Xou- = District (cf. Kr.-R. 1969 NW 48). Nama xou- [xau-] is expressed exactly as afr. Soon (s). It's lock-in soon-s, chew-s is Fern. Sing, and also serve as a 10-cative morpheme, sometimes customary at fountains, sources, holes, etc. that vagical is appreciated. Interestingly, it is that the mountain and farm names are given on the corresponding topographical skin 1973 as 'Gouwsberg' and 'Gouwshoek', clearly people's mitigation adjustments of the old names whose Khoekhoenic component is wrongly felt as Afrikaans family name.
