eng Mossop 1931 VRV 12 259 Identify it as 'Long Valley Riv., Dist. Clanwilliam ', located just beyond Leipoldtville. In 1927, Mossop said that Langvlei is Olifantsjagt Valley (Old Cape Highways 156); In his map at Bergh 1682-3's route standing opposite the old name Tythou the name Brakke Valley of Van der Stel 1685, and in a footnote at the present name Jakkalsrivier. None of the four names (Langvlei, Olifantsjagvallei, Brakvallei and Jakkalsrivier) let them commit from the well-known word inventory with peace of mind and acceptable with Tythou. Prof. SERTION 1971 VRV II 2 250-1 Take the statement of prof. Engelbrecht about, a statement before there o.i. No strong evidence yet exist. It is indeed a question whether the inland name translates one of the Dutch names; It can be an alternative name.

Nie een van die vier name (langvlei, Olifantsjagvallei, Brakvallei en Jakkalsrivier) laat hulle uit die bekende woordvoorraad met gemoedsrus en aanneemlik met Tythouw verbind nie. Prof. Serton 1971 VRV II 2 250-1 neem die verklaring van prof. Engelbrecht oor, 'n verklaring waar- voor daar o.i. nog geen sterk bewyse bestaan nie. Dit is inderdaad 'n vraag of die inlandse naam een van die Hollandse name vertaal; dit kan ’n alternatiewe naam wees.
