Enter the height of the head as 619 meters. It lies at the Kamdanier River. The head with name does not appear on the census card of 1891. Aran (a) - is apparently a rapid ruling of Aroena, and aron- is people's nettimologically. The Aroena is a Caralluma Sp. (Smith 1966 CNSAP 64-5). As a name motive it occurs in O.A. Arahegas (th a * 219), also form to 'round gas'.

Topo Cadastral Series 1967 Skin 3018 Loeriesfontein 'Aranskop'. Surveying 1972 'Aroenaskop, District Calvinia, 12 miles [19 km] west of Loeriesfontein. An old name for a head. Other game forms: Aronskop. The name comes from the plant aroenas. It was mistakenly incorrectly stated as Aronskop. The head lay on the farm Witlakte. Information obtained from Mr Brand of the farm Pangsgat. He is an old resident of this region and has said without hesitation that it is not Aron's head, but aroenas head '. Form filled in by NJ Cloete.

Topo-kadastrale reeks 1967 vel 3018 loeriesfontein 'Aranskop'. Opmeting 1972 'Aroenaskop, distrik Calvinia, 12 myl [19 km] wes van loeriesfontein. ’n Ou naam vir ’n kop. Ander spelvorme: Aronskop. Die naam kom van die plant aroenas. Dit is voorheen verkeerdelik aangegee as Aronskop. Die kop le op die plaas Witvlakte. Inligting verkry van mnr Brand van die plaas Hangsgat. Hy is ’n ou inwoner van hierdie streek en het sonder aarseling gesê dat dit nie Aronskop is nie, maar Aroenaskop'. Formulier ingevul deur NJ Cloete.

Op latere kaarte kom die naam dan ook voor as Aroenaskop, met landme- tersbaken nr 2 daarop, vgl. die ooreenstemmende Topografiese kaart 1974 en (van dieselfde jaar) die kaart op die skaal 1:58 000, lg. gee die hoogte van die kop aan as 619 meter. Dit le aan die Kamdanierivier. Die kop met naam verskyn nie op die Sensuskaart van 1891 nie. Aran(a)- is blykbaar ’n wisseluitspraak van aroena, en Aron- is volksetimologies daaruit gehaal. Die aroena is ’n Caralluma sp. (Smith 1966 CNSAP 64-5). As naamge- wingsmotief kom dit voor in o.a. ARONEGAS (TH A* 219), daar ook ver- vorm tot 'De Ronde Gas'.
