Description
eng Nabee' is a farm on the road between Vanrhynsdorp and Kliprand. It borders on the southwide side for its full length to the farm 'Dorst Vlakte' over which the 'Klein-Riethrivier' flows. About 'Nabee' The 'Nebeep River' 'Thirst' is in Nama ǀǀ GA (Rest 1960 DNW 15). In Old Cape it is recorded as ǀǀ Ka-, ǀǀ A etc. (Hott 249). With the well-known change of G and N and Van K and N (cf. th a * 46 at resp. 5 d 4 and 5 d 5) can be the first member of 'Nabeep', viz. 'Na-', with ǀǀ GA and 11ka Allophone, and it is possible that 'Dorst Vlakte' can be a (partial) translation of 'Nabeep'. We think there is another possibility. The Nabeapp River and the Klein-Riet River flow, especially at the Bolope of the Nabeei River, very close together, and both water in the Geelbekrivier. 'Reed' is in Nama (Kr.- The second member, debeak, is like Nama -Be-B, with-being the locative morpheme, the lock -b the exit of the Masc. Sing., Plain with rivers etc. Then 'Nabeep' 'means Rietrivier'. Is it perhaps the 'Riet River' for which the Klein-Riet River forms a contrast?
'Dors' is in Nama ǀǀga (Rust 1960 DNW 15). in Ou-Kaaps is dit opgeteken as ǀǀka-, ǀǀa ens. (HOTT 249). Met die bekende wisseling van g en n en van k en n (vgl. TH A* 46 by resp.
