Thompson 1824 Travels 298 '...we reached a place called Goubus...Here...we procured water by digging in some old pits, between the masses of rock, which form a sort of basin or trough, in which the rain water is collected. It is from this circumstance that the spot derives its name — Goubus, in the Bushman language signifying ‘Trough Fountain’.' Pettman 1921 SAJS 17 336 'Goubus (Hot. ╪goub = a wooden watertrough) is the name of a small place at the foot of the Kamiesberg, little Nama- qualand'.
