Gougo

GOGGO is farm No. Q. 1-25 (now 19), Carnarvon District. It lies northwest of Vanwyksvlei and southwest of Verneukpan. The area is over the general lowlighting which runs down to Carnarvuns and Verneukpan. Gifto Le whore, the highest point of the environment carries the land surveyor No. 42, 1111.1 meters above sea level (S. series 1975 scale 1:50 000 Skin 3021 Brill's dam) and LEGGO. Southeast of GOGGO is the border farm 'Springbok Eye' Fr. Q. 2-30 (NOW No. 27), also a beacon No. 27 (Topo-Cadastral Series 1967 Skin 3020 Sak River), and a high excellent point called 'Spitskop'. It offers us the necessary information for the statement. In the early days it was Springbok World: This is the name of the old adjoining farm 'Springbok eye', and also the name of Giftgo himself that covers the western half of the mountain mass. GOGGO, after all, means 'Springbok (mountain)', such as Nama ǀǀ Gu- = Springbok, and + go- = (mountain) Speak (cf. Rest 1960 DNW 58 for both words). The member 'Springbok' translates the member 'soon-' into the two names of farms in the same mountain mass, farms that are also neighboring farms

Die gebied is oor die alge- meen laagliggend wat afloop na Carnarvonleegte en Verneukpan. Gougo le hoer, die hoogste punt van die omgewing dra die landmetersbaken nr 42, 1111,1 meter bo seespieel (S.A. reeks 1975 skaal 1:50 000 vel 3021 Brill se Dam) en le op Gougo. Suidoos van Gougo is die grensplaas 'Springbok Oog' Fr. Q. 2-30 (nou nr 27), ook daarop ’n baken nr 27 (Topo-kadastrale reeks 1967 vel 3020 Sakrivier), en ’n hoog uitstekende punt genoem 'Spitskop'. Dit bied ons die nodige gegewens vir die verklaring. In die vroeë dae was dit springbokwêreld: daaraan hierinner die naam van die ou aangrensende plaas 'Springbok Oog', en ook die naam van Gougo self wat die westelike helfte van die bergmassa beslaan. Gougo beteken immers 'Springbok(berg)spits', soos Nama ǀǀgu- = springbok, en + go- = (berg)spits (vgl. Rust 1960 DNW 58 vir albei woorde). Die lid 'Springbok-' vertaal die lid 'Gou-' in die twee name van plase in dieselfde bergmassa, plase wat boonop ook buurplase is
