Ons is nie altyd so gelukkig om ’n fout so duidelik en begryplik vas te stel soos hier nie. Hierdie 'Hunissoutpan' is ’n gefabriseerde naam. Die pan se naam is heeltemal anders. Dit is 'Konnes se Pan', vgl. KONNES in TH B. Dit beteken '(Dik)dermpan', vanweë sy voorkoms. Maar toe daar in 1953 navraag na die betekenis gedoen is, is die vermoede uitgespreek dat, afgaande op die klank, dit mag beteken 'Huni-boom...', die Boscia albi- trunca vgl. KONNES in TH A** 758, en daardie vermoede is gebruik om die ou en ingeburgerde naam Konnes te verander tot Hunis- plus dan die bykomende komponente uit Afrikaans.
