Komgoois
We do not find the name in old writings or on maps. Also not on S.A. series 1971 skin 3018 AA Bovlei scale 1:50 000. However, it is locally alive, and old. It lies on the eastern side of the farm 'Olyven Fountain' Clw. Q. 6-35. District Namaqualand. The Buffalo River originates there. Now we have not found any explanation of the name, but there is no trouble. Olive tree is in Namaǃ Gum- (Kr.-R. 1969 NW 126). Intended the Olea Africana or wild Olienhoutboom (Wissue 1975 Botanische Mitt 50), which was also relying for the name of the farm Olyven Fountain there. The change g- (of gum-s) and K (of K-enchanted) were lived. The second member, throwing, is like Namaǃ Goa- = 'Einsenkung (Immiland)' (Kr.- R. 125), and hit the fountain, or pits (cf. name of the farm De Kuilen at The fountain), also valley etc. The '(wild) Olienhoutboomfontein'. And it immediately asks the question, viz. Whether the name of the farm Olyven Fountain is not an ordinary translation of the old Khoekhoense name of that fountain and its environment. We feel sure that this is the case, so that the usual pattern here is found so often in the Namaqualand district.
