Heidons
The name does not appear on the 1891 census map, nor at Veillet S.j. Card, then still as 'Heidons', located northwesterly of Kamieskroon and northern Swartlintjiesrivier, not far from the ocean. The corresponding topographical map gives it as a dune offer, where the dunes are distinguished with color names, such as black, white, yellow and red. The farm Heidons lies on the eastern side of the flourishes between the farm and the sea. The question arises whether there is a connection between the name Heidons and the Geeluine West and adjacent, especially because Nama has the word ǀ hai that usually reflects the color 'dull' (Kr.-R. 1969 NW 177) 'Yellow' translated just like in Korana (cf. Hott 273; Vaal River's old name was precisely ǀ Haiǃ Garib translated Burchell Ea with 'Yellow River'). The linguistic agreement with regard to the heathen heidons and the yellow of yellow gums in their meaning is o.i. convincingly strong. Whether there is also a relationship between the parts -dons and dunes, we do not know.
