Koerietjiekwas
The meaning was clearly given by Mr Coetzee. ǀǀ Guru-, and with ordinary change ǀǀ Kuru-, means 'Ouarz, Kieselgrund ...' (Kr.- R. 1969 NW 143). This word (if we accept Gurus as the basis) apparently went up in the Afrikaans of the people along, so that he could adopt a reduction exit and could be Koetoetjie, because the fire clippings were small; Koetjie then became newspaper because of sound harmony.
