The 'coig is supposedly on the ╪Khoe bush, a salsola sp., Cf. Koichab in th a ** 744. The -g may have been shortened from koi-ga, with -ga such as Nama -Xa- to indicate that the saltbos has a very preferred.

Dit het bewaar gebly as naam van die plaas •‘‘Koig' Ken. Q. 6-23, nog steeds geregistreer met die hoe kontma voor die K-, waarmee n suigkon- sonant aangedui word. Op die plaas is nog 'n soutkom, so ingeteken bv. op die Topo-kadastrale reeks 1967 vel 2920 Kenhardt. 'n Deel van 'Geel- vlei' le ook op 'Koig. Die 'Koig slaan vermoedelik op die ╪khoe-bos, 'n Salsola sp., vgl. KOICHAB in TH A** 744. Die -g kan verkort geword het uit Koi-ga, met -ga soos Nama -xa- om aan te dui dat die soutbos daar baie voorgekont het.
