Houhou
This is the name of farm Cl. Q 13a-16 close to the district limit between Calvinia and Kenhardt. But still in Calvinia. This region is rich in Khoekhoen names that bring out the bottom. Also, the Afrikaans names with conclusion part -fontein, swirling, pan, vleet and floor are abundant, cf. e.g. Topographic Series 1974 Skin 2920 Kenhardt. Whatever is striking is the number of names with a first member indicating a number, especially the numbers two, three and seven. Just west of love holding 'seven fountains'. We believe that holding the Khoekhozen word for 'seven', today single letter hu, but earlier in all the dialects of Old-Cape Meerlet- terrekig; Prof. Maingard still heard it as haukx'a, cf. The finding farms in Hott 443. Keep is then possible 'Seven-fountain / pan ...' The caps on the -O- are probably some qualification. But for us it is not to determine with certainty. A for our convincing argument finds us in the fact that the farm bordering northeast to this farm, the meaning of Sesfontein, cf. Nanibic. The number of fountains distinguishes the two farms in their names.
