The member -Daap is exchange form of ╪gab, dry vlei (Rust), plain (Schultze), with the sometimes allophonic d / g as in disi / gisity = ten (Hott 179-180 and 5 E 1), dryer, a hybrid form which means 'drying plain', 'dryerevlei'. Besides the river name, today Dry Dap River (Topo Cadastral Series 1966 sheet 2916 Springbok), there is along the river on K 2917 DD the farms Witteklipfon- tein alias DrogDap No.q.8-30 and Old Drought Thine No. 1917-58- 3438, both in Dist. Namaqualand. The component -DAAP will have the same meaning in all. The driver's dry and drying are literally translated from Khoens, cf. Orokap.
