Noabies, Noabees
Noabies' is farm no know. Q. 8-15, District Kenhardt. On the corresponding topographical map 1974, the name is listed as 'Noa Bees' Singing., which is widely used in names of pans, marshes, etc. Just north of the northern boundary of Noabies is 'Duikersvlei', a pan. 'Diver' is in Nama Noa, cf. HOTT 254 S.V. Diver II, this corresponds exactly to the first member of the name 'Noabies'. Linguistically and topographically, it is clear that 'Duikersvlei' is a direct translation of Noabies / Noa. The diver has already occurred in place names, but in the form of DOA, cf. e.g. Doachas. We then have a case where the N- (in Noabies) and the D (in Doachas) alternate. Krenz FK 1979 Farmer note writes that 'in our regions' diver 'is called 'doa' or 'ǀ Au',' which provides supplementary information.
