Der Grosse (gai, auch alt) und Kleine (eigentlich: junge, =f=kxam, auf Frau bezogen) Ort, wo eine andersartige ([kxara) Frau (kxoes) ist. Wahrscheinlich wie in so vielen Fallen eine Anspielung auf ein personliches Erlebnis, das bekannt genug wurde, um dieser Grundwasserstelle den Namen zu geben'. Meyer G 1926 Koningsbode 27 'Krakhoes'. Laidler PW 1927 Man 148 'Dǀkara kois, foreign woman. A man came from the Cape and in a bushy place found a spring that had never been seen by those living near by. Hence ‘foreign woman’. This is near Steinkopf'. Pettman 1931 SAPN 20 'ǀKara Khois (ǀkara, to differ; khois, a woman) is a remarkable hill in Little Namaqualand; there is a spice of humour in the name, which represents this singular hill as a peculiar woman; the Dutch have perpetuated the idea, by calling the hill Byzondermeid'.
