Toubep, Toubeep
Spellings are t'obep, t'oubeep, t'oubeep and pulled together to queueback. On the farm name list we have T'oubeP a 5800/1958 and T'oubeP ken.q.2-19, District Kenhardt, all at 2920. Veillet game the head UBEEP head. The T 'is clearly an old suction consonant. Therefore, the old or o- next on the t or t'- vote does not match nama au = bitter, because -ou- (-au-) has no suction consonant, but it corresponds to Nama ǀ u = Brak, or ╪o- = salt. The be- is a nominator of a place, so about the 'brackish', 'salt'. For 'flip-outs' we have not ties with words that clearly bear that meaning. The spelling seems suspect that the name is old, perhaps too old for a wiping with this application. We believe the spelling t'ou- the association called with a 'wip-rope' and therefore rested on a mere coincidence.
