Die T’- stel die suigmedcklinker voor, in Nama die serebrale ǃ in hierdie geval. In Nama is die woord ǃgibi-, waaroor o.a. prof. T’gybiekop is die kop waar hulle hottentotsrys uithaal, en dus waar daar rysmierneste voorkom. Die assosiasie met rys kom natuurlik van die termietnimfe of larwes wat wit is en soos ryskorrels lyk, die rys(korrels) naamlik wat die Blankes gebruik. Die Afrikaanse woord rysmier is die mier wat uiteindelik uit die larwes, d.w.s. uit die rys van die geelkleurige ou inboorlinge, ont- wikkel.
