ǀHaiǃgarib

Smith's 'Fall River' is the Vaal River, and 'Kighher-heap' that looks so English in his second member, is Smith's spelling of the Khoekhoense form of Vaal River we treated in th a ** 542 under the entry Heiga- called, ie Smith's Ki is like Nama ǀ hai = pale, yellowish (change k and h, cf. TH E * 45 below 5 C 3), and his -ghe-heap is like Namaǃ Gari-b = River. Smith apparently knew no Khoek Heap . As can be completed from the increase, Swart River or Black River is an old name of the Orange River from its origin to its association with the Vaal River.

Description
eng Smith's 'Fall River' is the Vaal River, and 'Kighher-heap' that looks so English in his second member, is Smith's spelling of the Khoekhoense form of Vaal River we treated in th a ** 542 under the entry Heiga- called, ie Smith's Ki is like Nama ǀ hai = pale, yellowish (change k and h, cf.
