Tnougab
T'nougab is located west of the Mission Station Pella in District Nama Qualand. Just southwest of T'nougab is 'Klein-Rosynbos', on the topographical range 1975 1:50 000 'Kleinrosyn'. On topographical grounds, a relationship between T'nougab and Kleinrosyn (forest) seems possible. The question is whether there is also a linguistic agreement. We believe. 'Rosin Forest' is in Nama = p6u- [╪au] (Rest 1960 DNW 50) that corresponds exactly to the member t'nou- of the place name; The t'- set here, namely the palata- le suction consonant and the -n- is the realization of what the nasal element has become. The second member of the place name, viz. -GA-, maybe the multiplicity morpheme such as Nama -Xa. The lock -b is the locative morphem masc. sing. Then T'nougab is 'the place (-b) rich (-exa) to raisin bushes (t'nou / ╪6u)'. The raisin forest is the Grewia Flava (Smith CA 1966 CNSAP 403).
