Guigams
This is our only recording of the old name of Pilgrim's Trust, farm No 100, on the northern slopes of the Skimmel Mountain Mountains, or southeast of Warmbaths. None of the two names occur on the maps of Hahn 1879 or Viongt 1893; The 1904 cricke mark calls this source on the road 'Pilgrim's Trust'. This corresponds exactly to what the map of 1911 calls 'pilgrim strost', so that this -trost must be kartographic entry error for -rust. This comforting resting place [for the tired foot of the pilgrim] was a source in the valley between the mountain landscape here (for the topography cf. O.A. Skin 2819 CC Pelladrif of Series 1:50,000 of 1973). The -s (Fr.. The -gam- is for Nama ǀǀ gam - which means 'water'. The GUI is here without tongue. Therefore, we need to guess what He wants. ǀ Gui = eg. one, and d = gui = much, d.w.s. There is only 'one water' or there are 'many waters' where the pilgrim could rest. From the nature of the name, we suspect that the pilgrim was a missionary, perhaps from Pella, of Jerusalem or Bly- Deverwacht.
