Kheis(Berg)
In th a ** 701 we brought the name based on the statement of Pienaar JD 1974 Boer letter with Namaǃ Gei [ǃ Gai] = Pofadder. On topographical grounds, another possibility also does. The eastern part of 'Kheisberg' lies 2818 Warmbaths of the Series 1: 250,000 1973 on the farm 'Kambreek and Zand Fountain'. 'Sand' is in Nama 11kae- [11khae] (Rust 1960 DNW 51) which can match soundly with the member Khei of Kheisberg, for place names with Kae - cf .. Kei and Keisab in th a ** resp. 677 and 687. The lock-on locates here a source or fountain. Topographic and linguistically Kheis- matching Sandfontein, then 'Zand Fountain' and the ledged 'Zandfontein' may be direct translations of Kheis. The mountain will also have taken its name from the (important) fountain, as can be made of the - in Kheisberg. Kheisberg then literally means 'Sandfonteinberg'.
