eng The old Khoekhozen name did not disappear in one sentence. It lives, namely translated as 'Kouefontein' (cf. topographical series 1974 sheet 2816 Alexander Bay). 'Cold' is in Namaǃ Kai. So the T- in the game efforts above are clearly meant to the suction consonantǃ to give again. The -holp of the cricke marte is a faulty debrief of -Hoi- (p) and must translate the concept 'fountain. It is perhaps equating to Nama ǀ au- = source, or to ǀ ui- = stone, viz. for 'Cold-Klipfontein', flowing from the mountain slope. The -P is ML. EKV. Eri usually indicates that the name is of a mountain or river, and in the above name it wants to say that the fountain has 'walked', was elongated, in the nature of a river, or that there is a connection with the Berg was.

Die -holp van die Kriegskarte is ’n foutiewe oorskrif van -hoi-(p) en moet wel die begrip '-fontein' vertaal. Dit is miskien gelyk te stel aan Nama ǀau- = bron, of aan ǀui- = klip, nl. vir 'Koue-klipfontein', wat uit die berghang vloei. Die -p is ml. ekv. eri dui gewoonlik aan dat die naam die van ’n berg of rivier is, en in bostaande naam wil dit se dat die fontein 'geloop' het, langwerpig was, in die geaardheid van 'n rivier, of dat daar ’n verband met die berg was.
