Nuaoop
The place lies on the census card north of Port Nolloth, above Holgat river. On the topographical series 1974 sheet 2816 Alexander Bay comes about north of 'Zwartbank', spelled 'Swartbank', before a bowl of 'Rooibank', north-northwest of Swartbank and closer to it is another 'Witbank'. Black bank is apparently translated from the old inland name that was still known in 1891, and the other two, Rooibbank and the strong opposing Witbank, are undoubtedly like translated names. Now, the first member of the recorded name, is like Nama = black, and the second element TC. Laoop is like Namaǃ hau-b = 'Fels-Wasserbank' (Kr.- R. 1969 NW 170); cfg. Furthermore about second component Awanghaus, but above the exit is not - it locates a mountain / head (pie), then the preference is the ml. EKV. -b (-p).
